Mathematics Olympiad Pathway

The Indian Mathematical Olympiad Programme is a multi-stage process conducted under the aegis of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), leading toward possible selection to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Some stages are written examinations; later stages are training and selection camps, not exams in the usual sense.

The Olympiad programme in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Junior Science is organised as separate five-stage processes. These are two distinct administrative programmes — read the distinction below before assuming a pathway applies to you.

Every benefit below is sourced; where a scheme is run by an individual institution rather than the Olympiad programme itself, that's noted clearly.

University admission pathways

A growing number of IITs now offer direct undergraduate admission routes for students who represent India at international Olympiads — separate from, and in addition to, JEE. These are institution-run schemes, not part of the official HBCSE/NBHM Olympiad programme itself.

HBCSE itself does not offer admission or scholarship incentives as part of running the Olympiad programme — its role is the exam and training pipeline. The admission pathways above are separate initiatives run by individual institutions, offered to students on the strength of their Olympiad achievement. Always confirm current-year eligibility and seat numbers directly with each institution before counting on a pathway.
